Iluka has been accused of over-filling several mine voids and poorly rehabilitating land at its former mineral sands mine at Douglas.
Horsham Council and the local Kanagulk Landcare Group referred the matter to the state’s mining warden last year and Victoria’s Resources Department has now conducted an audit of the site.
It found Iluka was compliant with the established audit criteria and that the company had not exceeded the disposal limits specified in a controversial 2009 work plan variation, granted by the then Brumby Labor government.
Horsham Council is due to decide in June whether to grant a planning permit to allow the company to continue dumping radioactive mine waste there for another 15 to 20 years.
