The VSMPO-AVISMA Corporation, OJSC has obtained ilmenite ahead of schedule from mining and processing facilities in Ukraine (Irshansk and Volnogorsk) as part of the 2014 contractual obligations. A stock of raw materials is now in place at the business that will meet its production needs for eight to ten months. Supplies from yet another Ukrainian mining and processing facility (Demurinsk) are scheduled to arrive in 2016.
VSMPO-Avisma’s press office told RusBusinessNews that the business’s manufacturing procedures make it possible to process titanium-containing concentrates from various sources. So, in order to diversify supplies, industrial tests have been conducted, and tens of thousands of tons of ilmenite have been processed from the Olekminsk mine (the Amur region), as well as from deposits in Kazakhstan, India, Mozambique, and Sri Lanka.
In addition, titanium-containing raw materials from Norway, Canada, Vietnam, China, Australia, and South Africa have also been approved for use. Next year industrial tests are planned of ilmenite concentrate from Senegal.
